Independent Living Issues for Caregivers

Adolescents who are aging out of the foster care system often have even greater needs and fewer skills than typical teens. They need to develop trauma coping skills during childhood and adolescence, so they have a solid foundation for the transition into adulthood. So it’s important for foster caregivers to provide trauma-informed support to adolescents before, during, and after young adults leave to live on their own. If caregivers reflect on how they transitioned into independent living and grow their relationship skills, they can provide support to adolescents/young adults as they prepare to live on their own.

Attend this webinar to:

  • Understand the special needs of adolescents aging out of the foster care system.
  • How foster caregivers can use their own experiences to provide support to their foster teens.
  • How communication and problem-solving can be used to make the transition to adulthood go smoother by preventing common communication conflicts.
