PTSD and Interventions for Children Who Suffered Trauma with David Zidar LISW-S

  • Course
  • 6 Lessons

Children in foster care have a vastly higher rate of trauma than their non-foster peers. Some estimates are that 51% of the children in care suffer Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. All adults in these children’s lives must have an understanding of the role trauma plays in their behavior and achievement of developmental milestones. Participants need to understand that the impact of trauma is idiosyncratic. Each child will manifest it differently. Participants will learn ways to help improve functioning and how to work with the mental health system.

Attend this webinar to:

  • Empathize and identify behaviors that could be consistent with PTSD.
  •  Develop an understanding of how to “create” an environment that will help these children reduce their anxiety level.
  •  Get an overview of the diagnostic category of PTSD and related suggested interventions.
  •  Develop a awareness of the role of trauma and behavior in foster care and adoptions

This training is an excerpt from a six-hour training approved by the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program to meet the competencies in skill set 208-02:  Ability to coordinate a comprehensive approach to the delivery of community-based services to remediate problems that contributed to abuse and to help children recover from the effects of abuse.
