Level 1 - Primary Parents Toolshop®: Introductory Basics about Child Welfare

  • Bundle
  • 7 Items

Welcome to the child welfare system! You surely didn’t consciously choose to become involved and now that you are in it, it’s hard to get out of it! That doesn’t mean, however, that it’s a trap; in fact, it could be an opportunity for positive life changes — that’s up to you! We are here to support you in using this experience as an opportunity for growth.

Part 1. Introductory Basics

Let's start with this basic orientation about the child welfare system, your rights and responsibilities, how things work, and some basics about how the crisis that brought you into this system might have affected you and/or your children.

Part 2. How Trauma Affects Adults & Children and Basic Healing Techniques

If you take offense to the term “trauma” to describe what you and your children have experienced, consider that Harvard University defines 3 different types of stress. Prolonged or “toxic” stress is experienced by the body the same as trauma. That's right!  When you consider what you and your children have been through, and what brought you into the child welfare system, you or they might have experienced it as a “trauma.” These programs will help you better understand stress and trauma and how you can start healing.
