Dealing with the Effects of Complex Trauma: How to Maximize a Child's Sense of Safety

The first Essential Element of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) Trauma Toolkit is “Maximize the child's sense of safety.”

It is not enough for children to be safe - "felt safety" only registers in the children’s physiology and neurochemistry if the children know they are safe.

This workshop will help participants understand the impact of complex trauma on feelings of safety and how to apply the correcting principles of Trust Based Relational Intervention.

(State of Ohio, Counselor, Social Worker & Marriage & Family Therapist Board Approval for 6 CEU's for Social Workers Approval #RSX012201.)

NOTE: This course is only offered live online. Please add your email to a list of interested participants and we'll contact you to schedule the course to your schedule.

Learning Objectives:

  • To review the Arousal/ Relaxation: with the overlay of the “Neuroscience of fear” so participants can:

    • understand that this delay prevents the child from being able to have access to his or her full cognitive capacity
    • understand the child’s developmental need to experience a consistent environment of nurturing “felt safety”
    • To briefly introduce or review the NCTSN Trauma Toolkit
  • To introduce the empowering principles, the connecting principles and the correcting principles of Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)
  • To introduce the evidence based strategies from Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) that parents can employ to enable their child to feel safe and nurtured in their home.
