Get the F-A-X: Listening & Problem-Solving Skills That Empower Children for Life! (Course #5 of 10 in Advanced Foster-Adoptive Parents Toolshop® Bundle) - 3 hour

Do you have children who experiences intense emotions or have difficulty expressing them? Do you see behavior caused by trauma or troubled feelings but your children won’t talk about what’s bothering them? Discover how to use and model “F-A-X Listening,” a simple three-step process that open the lines of communication, helps children develop emotional intelligence, express and work through their emotions in healthy ways, and teaches them how to responsibly solve problems and resolve conflicts. You can use F-A-X Listening in any relationship, with children or adults, in almost any conflict or problematic situation to find win/win solutions.

Learning Objectives

Complete this virtual workshop  and you will:
  • Know how to identify the difference between Child and Parent problem types and the concept of problem ownership.
  • Know how to identify the three types of problem-solving styles, so they know what each child needs to work through problems and decisions.
  • Understand how trauma and emotions show up in behavior and how to “peel layers” to reveal core issues driving problematic behavior.
  • Know which responses shut down communication and which open the doors to sharing and develop trust.
  • Know how to teach children how to verbally express their feelings — clearly and appropriately.
  • Know the importance of not taking over problems and how to ask helpful questions that guide children to their own solutions, without giving advice or putting them on the defensive.
