This course is a video of a live in-person workshop approved by the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program (OCWTP) for 6 hours. It provides training in the following OCTWP competencies:
Skill Set: 926-02: Ability to cope with ongoing stress related to caregiving.
- 926-02-004: Understands the caregiver’s role in helping family members manage stress related to fostering.
- 926-02-005: Knows how to recognize and resolve signs of family stress related to caregiving.
- 926-02-007: Understands the impact of caregiving on the marriage or adult intimate relationship. Knows how to address these issues.
Skill Set: 926-03: Ability to develop and maintain supportive relationships.
- 926-03-001: Knows how foster caregiving can affect relationships in the extended family and in the community.
- 926-03-002: Knows how to maintain support from extended family members and others.
Skill Set: 926-04: Ability to help children adjust to caregiver’s home.
- 926-04-004: Knows the stages of children’s adjustment to their caregiver or adoptive families Knows the signs of stress related to placement.
- 928-01-003: Knows how to help children deal with emotional distress resulting from contacts with primary family members.
- 952-03-003: Knows signs of emotional distress and crisis in foster, kinship, and adoptive children. Knows how to reduce children’s stress and resolve the crisis without disrupting the placement.
Skill Set: 948-02 Ability to cope with the ongoing stress related to adoptive parenting.
- 948-02-009: Can recognize causes and early signs of adoption stress among family members. Can obtain help early in the disruption sequence to prevent a full-blown crisis.
