Before you watch the video for this module, please answer these 3 questions for yourself FIRST.
1.  What is your definition of a lie?
2.  How might someone with a different perspective on life (like your foster child’s birth parents, for example) define lying?
3.  Is it ever okay to lie? If so, when?

Then watch the video, following along with the handout.

Module 4: What Research Says

In this module, we review what Ekman's research says about lying, particularly: 
  • How Parents Model Honesty (or don't) - 15 minutes
  • Developmental Stages of Understanding Truth and Lies (11 minutes)
  • How to Prevent Lying - 3 minutes

The intro video from Shrek is optional; it's just a fun way to restart. There are no quiz questions for it.

Just watch the Class Video, following along with the handout you downloaded in Module 2, taking notes. Then take the quiz at the end of this module before moving to the final module.

Module 5: Why Kids Lie & How to Respond to Lies

In this final module, we look at:

  • Why Kids Lie. Here, we look at Rudolf Dreikurs' "4 Goals of Intentional Misbehavior" and apply it to lying. 
  • How to Respond to Lying: Then we apply a 3-step response formula from The Parent's Toolshop®: The Universal Blueprint® for Building a Healthy Family specifically for lying.

After watching the video, following along with either handout, complete the final module quiz and then you will be ready to request your completion certificate!
