The Journey of a Trauma-Informed Foster Parent

Becoming a foster parent can be the most rewarding and challenging experience as we navigate new behaviors from each child in our care.  Developing a trauma-informed lens is vital on this journey to meet the needs of children from hard places.  Participants will take a look at relational trauma, how it affects the brain, and review resources that dive deeper into trauma-informed care.

Meet Kristen King, M.Ed., TBRI® Practitioner

As a trainer for the OCWTP and licensed foster parent, Kristen King works with children from hard places and their caregivers. Trust-Based Relational Intervention® (TBRI®) is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention that is designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. She is passionate about teaching caregivers to view behaviors through a trauma lens and sharing strategies to connect with children. It is important to remember if a child endures relational trauma, healing begins through healthy relationships. Being a TBRI® Practitioner has opened the doors to work with children, foster, adoptive, and kinship caregivers, primary families, caseworkers, and teachers.
