Children in foster care have experienced trauma. As caregivers, you may have experienced personal traumas. You may experience secondary trauma from hearing of the traumas the youth have experienced or from dealing with their resulting behaviors and reactions.

The content of this course identifies and discusses the importance of awareness of recognizing how a person’s trauma and secondary trauma can impact performance and personal adjustment. Techniques and activities including self-care are suggested to improve or restore the individual capacity and explore possible solutions and how to use them for ourselves for self-care and with and for clients we serve, whether adults or children, to directly assist in improvement or restoration and maintenance of the capacity for social functioning through strengthening resilience.

Meet Carol Brown, LPCC-S, LISW-S

 
Carol Brown is licensed in Ohio as a LPCC with Supervisor Designation and a LISW with Supervisor Designation.   Carol has over 30 years of experience working with Richland County Children Services and then with private providers of Residential, Therapeutic Foster Care, Adult and Children’s Mental Health Services.  Trained in Group Therapy and Family Therapy, Carol acknowledges she is a life long learner who has sought to integrate numerous proficiencies to aid in effective interventions with adults, children, families and staff. Carol is also an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher E-RYT 500 with other yoga certifications, including Subtle ®Yoga 40 hour online Certified Yoga Teacher.  Since the Pandemic, Carol has learned new platforms to teach yoga classes and takes weekly classes on yoga, trauma, neuroscience, and neuroplasticity (the brain’s capacity to change). She is currently focused on how to change the brain to create greater resilience.
