What You Should Know About Trauma and Children

Featuring Robert Rhoton Psy D., LPC, D.A.A.E.T.S., CEO of Arizona Trauma Institute, LLC

Trauma is an emotional response to an intense activation of the child’s nervous system, this can happen from an event, more commonly from environments of Toxic Stress and repeated adversity. The harm can be physical or emotional, real or perceived.  Unfortunately the largest contributor to trauma, toxic stress and adversity is the environment of caregiving and education. This training will help you see a trauma response as a correct biologically driven set of behaviors, emotions and thinking that are often seen as problematic.  Learn to recognize them and help the child manage themselves more effectively

You will be absolutely amazed, enlightened, and have a dozen "Aha!" moments in this TWO-HOUR LONG webinar by national trauma expert Dr. Robert Rhoton, who is the creator of the  "Certified Family Trauma Professional (CFTP)" credential.

  • The biological and behavioral effects of trauma on children.
  • What happens when trauma trigger buttons get pushed.
  • How to de-escalate raging children (and clients) in ways that co-regulate and teach self-regulation skills.
  • When problematic behavior is intentional or trauma-related.
  • How to reprogram neuropathway patterns to start healing trauma.

CEU Approved

Many parents, foster-adoptive parents, and non-clinical professionals work with children who have a trauma history. They see the effects of trauma without always realizing the cause is trauma. Not recognizing the signs and reacting to the physical and behavioral symptoms can escalate situations and add hurt to the child’s existing trauma. By having advanced knowledge about what trauma is, how it affects children, and how to respond, both caregivers and professionals can better respond to the child and support the parents and caregivers who live and/or work with the children on a daily basis.
