Parents Toolshop® Advanced TIPS: Add-on Pre-Post Parenting Skill Assessment Report & Instructor Feedback

Although the Advanced T.I.P.S. course is online, the instructor is still available to give personalized feedback on the practice exercises in The Parent's Toolshop® book you'll read.

Certified Parents Toolshop® trainers are also qualified to use a standardized outcome-focused pre-post skill assessment process developed specifically for The Parent's Toolshop® by a United Way Ph.D. specialist.

This deluxe service package includes all the forms in multiple formats, instructor feedback on your answers, and a comprehensive personalized skill assessment report, which may be useful for job applications, custody hearings, etc.

Here's how the skill assessment works:

Parents answer 7 what-would-you-do-in-this-situation questions and the instructor uses standardized criteria to assess the parent's skill level on a scale from 1-11 in 11 different parenting skill areas:
1.     Problem ownership, listening, problem solving.
2.     Encouragement, independence (teaching skills)
3.     Unintentional misbehavior, independence (balancing freedom and responsibility)
4.     Cooperation, intentional misbehavior (goal of power)
5.     Clear Communication (and cooperation)
6.     Discipline (punishment vs. discipline and use of techniques)
7.     Anger/Stress Management skills (parent and child)

Contents

Welcome!

Dear Parents Toolshop® Coaching/Training Client,

Thank you for choosing to participate in the pre/post skill assessment process, so you can see the measurable skill improvement you achieve from learning The Parents Toolshop®.

This downloadable product has documents/files organized in the following 3 sections:

1.      Detailed Directions

2.      Forms to Sign

         a.      Skill Assessment Agreement

         b.      Release of Information form

3.      Skill Assessment Questionnaire.

The questionnaire is provided in 2 formats (Word & Text) and 3 age groups.
CHOOSE ONE AGE in ONE FORMAT and answer ALL the questions before/after your course (reading the book, taking a class or online course). The form has directions on it for completing the form pre-class (before you start reading the book or taking a class/course) and post-class (after you finish reading the book or taking a class/course).

**NOTE: YOU MUST DO THE PRE-SKILL ASSESSMENT BEFORE START READING/LEARNING ANYTHING OR IT WILL INVALIDATE THE RESULTS.

The Pre-Post Assessment process is a comparative analysis that will show your skills before you started learning anything and then after, showing your skill improvement. Once you start reading/learning it is no longer “pre.”

COMPLETE THE PRE-SKILL ASSESSMENT FIRST, BEFORE YOU START ANY LEARNING.

4.      Chapter Assignments for Instructor Review

          a. Chapter Practice Exercises from each chapter are editable docs you can type into.

            - ALL PARENTS who are reading the book need to complete these as part of the assessment and review process.

            - If you are attending a class online or in person, you are not required to do them because there are other quizzes and post-tests in the courses, although you are welcome to still do them if you have The Parent’s Toolshop® book, because they will help your skill improvement and ability to translate skills into practice. Your training hours do not include the time to answer these questions.

         b. Post-Tests for PROFESSIONAL Trainees. The term “post-test” on these files might be confusing since you are doing a pre-post skill assessment. That is terminology required by the Ohio State professional licensing board. They meet the requirements for “post-tests” to receive professional CEUs

            - PARENTS, you are not required to complete these as part of the assessment and review process, although it is a nice document to review after the course.

-PROFESSIONALS, If you are attending for CEU training hours (social workers, counselors, MFTs, foster parents, etc.) you are required to do the Post-Tests to receive a CEU certificate that will be accepted by your licensing board.

If you have any questions or want any clarifications, please reach out to us at the contact information below.

We look forward to supporting you through this process. Thank you for doing your part to complete all the requirements so we can write a thorough and accurate skill assessment report.

Yours in service to families,

Parent's Toolshop Consulting, Ltd.

1.      Complete, sign and submit (email/fax/mail) the "Skill Assessment Agreement" form.

2.      If you want your report sent to anyone other than you, sign the "Release of Information" form, telling the instructor who else the report goes to.

           c.       Pre-class, you can skip the question about how much of the book you read.

4.       Send these completed and signed forms to your instructor. If one has not been identified to you, click here to send an email with your forms from the email address associated with your course registration or online account. That link will open an email and put “Completed Skill Assessment Forms for __________________” in the subject line. Just replace the blank line with your name and attach your completed/signed forms. It will go to Info@ParentsToolshop.com, who will forward it to your instructor.

POST-CLASS:

PARENTS: Get instructor feedback on your Chapter Practice Exercises **DON'T START READING/LEARNING UNTIL YOU SUBMIT YOUR PRE-CLASS SKILL ASSESSMENT!!**

Here are the Chapter Practice Exercises in editable docs you can type into.

These exercises help you translate learning into practice and are possibly the most beneficial part of the entire course!

WHEN TO DO THEM?

IF you do these, you MUST (and have agreed in your signed agreement that you will) NOT look at the answer key in the book until after you have given and submitted your own answers. We have our ways of knowing if you did and will share any suspicion this was done in your skill assessment report, which could invalidate the results or have negative consequences for you.

WHO SHOULD DO THEM?

- ALL PARENTS need to complete these as part of the skill assessment and instructor review process.

- If you are attending for professional training hours (social workers, counselors, foster parents, etc.) you are not required to do them, although they will help your skill improvement and ability to translate skills into practice. Your training hours do not include the time to answer these questions.

WHICH FILE FORMAT TO CHOOSE?

- IF YOU HAVE A WINDOWS PC:
     - You can download and extract all the files in the first ZIP file.
OR- You can download each Word file (if you don't know how to unzip files.)

- IF YOU ARE ON A NON-WINDOWS DEVICE:
     - Download the plain text files (filenames end with ".txt")

PROFESSIONALS: Get Instructor Feedback and scores on your POST-TESTS for CEUs

These are questions you answer at the end of each chapter to determine if you learned/understood the content of that section.

- PARENTS, you are not required to complete these as part of the assessment and review process, although it is a nice document to review after the course.

- If you are attending for professional training hours (social workers, counselors, foster parents, etc.) you are required to do the Post-Tests in order for us to issue you a certificate that will be accepted by your licensing board. Normally, we don't score or give feedback on these, but if you are already getting a skill assessment report and want instructor feedback, we'll score and comment on these, too.
