Taming Temper Tantrums (webinar & video exercise)

Temper tantrums are hard to watch, especially if you are the parent of the child having one.

The experience will almost always be an emotional one, for both the parent and child. Whether you think the tantrum is funny, ridiculous, or nerve-wracking, it is always a sign the children are deeply upset --- even if they appear to be faking their emotions.

That's because tantrums are a behavioral way of a child communicating one of four messages about how they really feel. If we, as parents and caregivers, can identify what's driving the tantrum, then we can respond helpfully, to stop the tantrum, and possibly prevent future similar tantrums.

Before we begin, I want to remind you about the RTITI Child Videotaping Use Policy and reiterate that my intention is not to shame, blame or make fun of the parents or the children in these videos, nor to endorse videotaping children at their worst and posting them on YouTube. Since these parents have chosen to do this, then maybe we can use the videos as an opportunity to learn more about taming temper tantrums.
